I started my book selling career in 2000 at a cozy bookstore in Portland, Oregon. I enjoy reading, photography, sewing, cooking, writing, spending time with my family, and taking in a Chocolateers show from time-to-time.

My Favorites:

Invitation to a Beheading by Vladamir Nabakov

The quirkiness of this story laid out using impeccable language kept me completely interested through to the end of what is a force of true imagination and wit.  Genius.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

I loved this book’s energy. it’s the story of a young man who doesn’t let life’s curveballs knock him down.

Feathers by Jacqueline Woodson.

This is a quiet, quick story of a young girl living in a time that is remenicent of my own childhood memories.  I could actually smell the burgers Jacqueline wrote frying away on the stovetop one winter night after school.

The Life and Times of Michael K. by J.M. Coetzee

Is a story about a simple man trying to live in a world wrought by war.

The Last of Her Kind by Sigrid Nunez

Here is a story about a young woman from Albany, New York who is awarded a scholarship to Barnard College. Her roommate is a privileged young woman from Greenwich, Connecticut turned activist. The story takes place over a number of years and often through reflection.

Nunez has a quiet consistent voice that I’ve grown to greatly respect.

Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson

This is the story of a 60 something Norwegian man who moves himself away from society, and back to the place that holds the key to the story of his coming of age.

The God Of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

A work of great depth and imagery about how paths change for an entire family after love is lost..  A true masterpiece.

Lamb : The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore

This book kept me laughing throughout. It’s the story of Christ from age 9 thru crucifixion. Brilliantly imaginative.

Milk by Darcey Steinke

A voyeuristic read.
